Who is the Commissioner of Oaths UK?
A Commissioner for Oaths is an authorised person who has been given permission to witness the signing of legal documents such as statutory declarations, affidavits and more.
The Lord Chancellor appoints a person as a Commissioner for Oaths and gives them the power to administer oaths or take affidavits. All practising solicitors are automatically Commissioners for Oaths and have powers to administer oaths and witness affidavits.
Document certification process
Our document certification process is very simple and straight forward as mentioned below:
- Bring your original document(s);
- We will make copies of your original document(s);
- We will stamp and sign the photocopies of the documents to certify & confirm that these are true copies of the original.
Certify passport photo
Our solicitors based in Wembley London can certify a passport photograph to confirm that the photo is a “true likeness” of the person pictured.
The passport photo certification process is very simple. Just provide us with an original passport-size photograph. Our solicitor will write “I certify that this is a true likeness of [title and full name of adult or child who is getting the passport]” on the back of the photo and then add the signature & date under the statement.
At Wembley Solicitors, we charge a fixed fee of £5 (VAT inclusive) to certify a passport photo.
Who can certify a document?
A professional person or someone well-respected in your community can certify a document as a true copy of the original. You could ask the following if they offer this service:

The person you ask to certify your documents should not be related to you, living at the same address or in a relationship with you.
How long does it take to certify documents?
The document certification process takes 5-10 minutes. However, it may take longer depending on the number of documents you want to get certified. You don’t need to book an appointment with a solicitor, but it is advisable to call ahead of your visit.
How much does it cost to certify a document?
Our solicitors charge a fixed fee of £5 (VAT inclusive) per page to certify a document as a true copy of the original. If you require us to witness a signature, we charge £20 plus VAT per document.
