A Couple’s Guide to Getting a UK Visitor Visa for Your Honeymoon

Considering that the total number of visit visas granted by the UK was around 2.1 million in 2017, it’s safe to assume that visit visas to the country aren’t difficult to attain.

However, if this is the first time you’re applying for a UK visa, it can be pretty easy to mess up your application. And especially when you’re in the situation where you need a visa for a honeymoon, making such a blunder is not an option.

Applying for a UK Visa Made Easy

Even if you’re applying as a couple, you’ll both need to apply individually, with complete information on your purpose, who you’re going with, and more details on what your plans are for your stay.

In regard to documents, here is a necessary checklist:

  • Valid passports
  • A complete visitor visa form
  • Marriage certificate
  • Wedding cards and further proof of nuptials
  • A basic letter with a detailed itinerary
  • An air return ticket for both
  • Hotel bookings that correspond with the dates in your itinerary
  • A 6-months bank statement from the account where you’ve gathered funds
  • Proof of tax payments
  • Copy of credit card details
  • Photographs
  • Proof of employment
  • Payslips or proof of salary transfer
  • Letter from employer stating your need for return

Remember though, if one of you is sponsoring the trip, the dependent will not need to provide any financial documents pertaining to their personal funds.

Caveat for Your Stay

One of the reasons why such applications are rejected is because people skip adding the proof of reason for why they’ll want to come back. Keep in mind that while you know you’ll come back, the Home Office does not.

For this purpose, it’s also important that you add documents for any property or the agreement for the house you’re living in. A letter from your employer with complete details on your job and why you’re needed is also required.

Additionally, it’s much more viable if you offer bank documents from an account you’ve had for a while. A new bank account which you’ve transferred your funds to will seem highly suspect, since this will not provide any information on where the money came from.

Nevertheless, if you’ve opened a new account, you’ll need to show the transaction details, which account you gathered the money from, etc., so the Immigration Officer can match the dates for when the money was transferred.
