UK Visas: 3 Types You Should Know

Every year, the UK welcomes millions of foreign nationals as visitors. London, in particular, is a popular holiday destination for tourists. If you’re looking to settle in the UK or enter for a specific purpose, you might be better suited for a work visa or a student visa. If you want to visit the UK, you have a few options open to you that you can explore here.

Our immigration solicitors in Wembley have advised many visa applicants as they’ve secured the right UK visa for their needs. At Wembley solicitors, we can help you find the right choice and help you through the application process.

This diversely populated country prides itself on its bustling tourist industry, which is why there are ways to enter for almost anyone. However, the paperwork and documentation can be tedious. Our teams can assist with that.

The first step to obtaining a visa is ensuring you’ve chosen the right stream.

The Visitor Visa

This visa doesn’t entitle you to indefinite leave to remain in the UK, and you’ll have to pay an additional fee for National Health Services. Here are the types:

The Standard Visitor Visa

Applicants for this visa must meet some or all of the following requirements:

  • Have  friends and family in the UK that they intend to visit
  • Be intending to partake in creative or sporting events or business activity
  • Need medical treatment in the UK
  • Not live within the European Economic Area or Switzerland
  • Show evidence, like travel documents, that they intend to leave the country before the expiry of their visa
  • Show evidence of enough resources to support themselves and any dependents they intend to bring
  • Show documentation of any events or business activities they intend to participate in during their visit

The Marriage Visitor Visa

Applicants who seek a marriage visitor visa must meet the following requirements to be eligible:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Able to show evidence that they are legally able to marry within their visa period
  • Prove the authenticity of their relationship
  • Show that they intend to remain in the UK for six months or less
  • Be able to support themselves financially or manage with the help of relatives
  • Be able to show that they have adequate funds to book travel to depart from the UK
  • They mustn’t be in a transit nation outside the United Kingdom, the Channel Island, Ireland, and the Isle of Man

The Short-Term Study Visa

  • This visa is different from the main student visabecause it only entitles applicants to study in the UK for up to six months. Here are the requirements:
  • You must be a resident of a nation outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland
  • Be able to show evidence that you’ve been offered a position at a recognised institution
  • Show sufficient funds to support themselves
  • Show sufficient funds to be able to return to their home country
