Common UK Immigration Questions: Am I Eligible for a UK Fiancé Visa?

If you wish to join your fiancé in the UK and you reside outside the European Economic Area (EEA), you’ll need to apply for a UK fiancé visa.

In order to be then considered and accepted for a UK fiancé visa, you must meet the eligibility requirements as set out by the Home Office for this specific category of visa.

Eligibility Requirements for a UK Fiancé Visa

First and foremost, you and your fiancé must be at least 18 years of age, must have met each other, and must plan to live together on a permanent basis in the UK once married.

You’ll need to demonstrate to the Home Office that you’re in a genuine and subsisting relationship with your fiancé, and that you’ve the intention to enter into marriage with them.

It’s important to note here that your fiancé must either be a British citizen or must have a settled status in the UK for your application to be considered valid.

Then there are financial requirements that you and your fiancé must meet.

Since, you’re not allowed to work in the UK under a fiancé visa, your future spouse must earn enough for you both to live off.

To ensure this, the Home Office requires that your fiancé must have a minimum annual income of £18,600 before tax.

In the case, you and your fiancé plan to rely on cash savings, the financial requirement set by the Home Office is £62,500.

There are accommodation requirements to fulfil as well, which state that your fiancé must own or rent a place where you can with live them after you move to the UK.

Finally, there are English language requirements and medical requirements that include taking a Tuberculosis test when applying for a UK fiancé visa.

These requirements, however, are not for all non-EEA residents. The Home office maintains a list of countries on its website for which these requirements apply to.

Failure to meet any of the aforementioned eligibility requirements will most certainly render your application invalid, so make sure that you’re well covered on all fronts.
