The Exceptional Talent visa is specifically for those individuals who are already recognized leaders in the field of science, digital technology, engineering, medicine, humanities or arts – or harbour exceptional promise in either of these fields.

These are the individuals who have the potential to transform the industry through their unique approach and robust skills and can establish themselves as leaders in the value chain.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa, you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Through your skills that you can lead the development of a new or cutting-edge technology, or
  • Through your experience that you’ve previously ledthe charge for developing a cutting-edge technology or generated significant commercial success in your chosen field or sector.

Of course, this would require some sort of endorsement or proof. This could be a highly prestigious award that you’ve received or been nominated for, or it can be an endorsement from your previous organization/employer highlighting how your talent and skills stand out.

Applying for UK Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa

The application process for the visa is a 2-stage process.

If you’re a digital technology specialist, in addition to applying for the Home Office endorsement, you’ll also need to apply for a Tech Nation Visa Scheme endorsement.

The endorsement process usually takes 8 weeks.

Once you’ve been endorsed, you can then move to stage 2 and apply for the visa. You must submit your visa application within 3 months of receiving the endorsement letter from the Home Office. The document requirements for this stage are available at the Home Office’s website.

As for the processing fee, for the endorsement stage you’ll have to pay £287 in fee, while the fee for visa application process varies between £232 and £574.

Please note these fees are subject to changes, so contact the Home Office for tailored guidance.
