Limitations and the Status on the UK Student Visa

It’s no secret that the UK student visa has been in the limelight recently because of the many changes and limitations that were made to the requirements by the Home Office.

If you want to study in the UK, your requirements depend on what you’re studying and your country of residence. But first, you will need to be accepted by a college or university for the course you want. You will also need to prove that you can understand English at a specified level of fluency.

If you want to apply for a short course, you can do so under any visa. Otherwise, you will need a specific student visa to continue.

Status of the UK Student Visa

First off, you will need to find an appropriate course at a licensed university in the UK or an institute for higher education. You will need to apply for a Tier 4 visa though you may need to ask a lawyer whether you should apply for the Tier 4 (Child) student visa or the Tier 4 (General) student visa. For either, you’ll also need to show an unconditional offered provided to you by the university so you can make your case.

In addition to all the basic documents, you will also need to provide proof of payment for your university tuition as well as a healthcare surcharge. You will also be required to take a tuberculosis test, depending on your country.

Once you have the visa, you will have the right to work in the UK whilst studying. However, this timeframe should not exceed 20 hours per week. You can also bring your children and partner with you as a dependent if you are a government sponsored student. Your course will need to be longer than six months, or you could do a postgraduate course. Otherwise your family’s visa will be rejected.
