New Immigration Rules for Illegal Immigrants

Being an illegal immigrant in any country is tough. There are limited resources and jobs, and barely any viable housing options.  But with the new government and Brexit, U.K. laws have been subject to many changes, especially in regards to immigration.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t become a legal citizen. You need to take certain measures to gain a legal status in the U.K.

Here’s what you should know:

Ways to Become a Legal Citizen

One of the first things you need to do is find an immigration solicitor who can help you understand your rights.

An immigration solicitor can assist you with many things, from compiling paperwork to filing the immigration application. Furthermore, they have the tools, resources and the knowledge to help you file for legal support.

You might be able to attain legal status if:

  • You’re between the ages of 18 and 24 and have lived in the U.K. for half your life
  • Returning to your home country is dangerous (i.e., due to an ongoing war)
  • You have a lot of relatives in the U.K.
  • You have children in the U.K.

If you have children living with you in the U.K. but do not have citizenship, you can apply for registration. It’s advised that you do it as soon as possible.

If you apply to become a legal citizen, remember that the process can take some time and there are chances of being rejected. This is exactly why finding a solicitor who has immense experience is important. It can take up to 4 weeks for your application to be processed.

In the meantime, make sure that you have all the relevant documents necessary (your solicitor will provide you with all the details.) You also need to make sure that you do not have a criminal background or record.

You will also need to keep the Immigration Office in loop in case you move house or get married while your application is being processed.

After your application has been processed, you will need to go for an interview where you will be required to speak without an interpreter.
