Rights Of Landlords

LANDLORDS AND TENANTS

Their Rights

Both landlords and tenants have their rights set out by the law.

Violation of these rights may lead to LEGAL DISPUTES.

Rights of Landlords

There are around two million landlords in the UK.

  1. Seizing Properties

Landlords have the right to seize their possessions anytime if the tenant fails to pay rent on time.

  1. Removal Of Items

They can remove all the items that the tenant left behind.

Landlords can notify them, but they are not bound to do so.

  1. Collecting Rent/Overdue Amount

Landlords can collect rent or payments associated with added amenities.

If there are overdue rents, the landlord can meet the tenant in person and demand for the outstanding amount.

  1. Property Inspection

Landlords can give tenants a 24-hour notice before coming to inspect their property.

They have the right to look at their property if they suspect any abuse.

Rights Of Tenants

A fifth of the UK population lives in privately rented accommodation.

  1. Getting Contact Information Of The Landlord

Previously, tenants had to contact landlords through estate agency.

Now, landlords have to provide tenants their name and address.

Tenants have the right to contact them directly if an issue arises.

  1. Access To Facilities

Tenants have the right to have a good living condition in their rented house.

Landlords have to make sure there are sufficient facilities. There should be quality appliances such as water heaters, HVAC and oven etc.

  1. Timely Maintenance

Landlords must address the complaints of tenants in time.

All the maintenance and repair related issues should be solved within a short period of time.
