The most important requirement is that your family must be living permanently in the UK. In other words, they must bea British citizen, settled in the UK or have humanitarian protection or asylum in the UK. If your family member meets these requirements, check whether you can meet these eligibility requirements to get a family visa:

• Be 18 or older
• Speak, write and understand English
• Have sufficient funds to live in the UK
• Have accommodation to reside in the UK
• Provide evidence of your relationship with your family member living in the UK
• Submit a valid passport and travel documents

How Long Does It take to Get A Family Visa?

It should not take longer than 12 weeks to receive a decision. That being said, it might take longer if an applicant has not submitted complete documentation and information.

Exceptions

If your family member is living temporarily in the UK on a student visa or a work visa, you cannot apply for a family visa. In addition, applicants with a visitor visa cannot apply for a family visa.
