Your Guide to Getting a UK Work Visa in 2021

Almost exactly a year after the UK left the European Union for the better, the UK government has taken the initiative to review its immigration policy. The immigration policy that offered a lot of relaxation for the EU citizens has now been renewed and changed to encourage a more fair immigration process for all global citizens.

This blog helps you navigate through the UK’s new immigration policy, the new eligibility criteria to land the UK work visa in 2021, and the latest updates in the immigration laws.

A Fair Points-Based Immigration System

The UK government has decided to implement a points-based immigration system for both EU and non-EU citizens. The relaxations for EU citizens ended on the 31st of December, 2020, and new regulations have been drafted for them.

The points-based immigration system requires that work visa applicants have a valid job offer and a sponsorship letter from their employer in the UK. Moreover, your employer must be on the list of approved employers and be registered with the Home Office in the UK.

Approved Job Offers

Skilled workers from around the world, including EU citizens, will need to produce an approved employment offer, have a market-competitive job salary, and converse in English. The UK government wants to provide a fair opportunity for skilled workers and source employees who can contribute to the country’s growing economy.

A Global Talent Scheme

If you’re a researcher or a scientist who resides in either EU, EEA, or the Swiss countries, then you’re in luck!

The global talent scheme allows accomplished scientists and researchers to cross the UK borders without producing a job offer letter.

Visa Application Process

Those who want to land work or a study visa in the UK will have to fill out the visa application forms. For EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens, these visa application forms are available online, and you won’t need to submit your fingerprints for the application.

However, if you’re someone who’s a non-EU resident, then you’ll be asked to head to your nearest visa application centre and get your photo, and your biometrics taken at the centre.
