4 Reasons Why UK Student Visas Get Rejected

Applying for a student visa in the UK?

Wait!

Just take these few minutes to read this post before applying. We want to share with you something very important—it’s about your student visa application.

Each year, thousands of students apply to colleges and universities in the UK. Based on merit, the deserving ones get admissions, while other applications are rejected. But that’s not where the story ends.

Out of the selected many, only few are able to get their student visa applications approved by the Home Office—the once soaring spirits come crashing down.

You do not want this to happen with you.

We share with you reasons, as to why a UK student visa application gets rejected in first place.

Reason #1: Missing Documents

This is the most common reason for visa application rejection. Often misguided or not having complete information about the documents to be submitted, students fail to furnish complete set of documents. Therefore, before submitting the documents, it’s important to ensure that you have the complete set as required.

Also, make sure that the submitted documents are in original form. Where you can’t provide the originals, enclose a letter of explanation, clarifying the reason for not being able to provide originals and if possible, attach a supporting document to strengthen your case.

Reason #2: Incorrect Format of Submitted Documents

Where it’s important that the documents you submit are complete, the format of the submitted documents is equally important.

For example, if you are submitting a document that has been translated into English, the document must mention the name, signature and the translator’s contact details. If any of this information is missing, the whole document could be deemed invalid for further processing. You can refer to these guidelines for better understanding of the format requirements.

Reason #3: Financial Inadequacy

Unfortunately, your academic credentials alone aren’t enough for you to get a student visa. You also need to have sufficient funds to support your education in the UK and the accompanying living expenses. If the Home Officer finds that the submitted financial documents do not prove your financial eligibility, this can serve to be a pretext for rejection.

Reason #4: Failing the Interview

This is where subjectivity comes into play. Until recently, the assessment of your application was strictly based on points. You would submit complete set of documents in a standard format and prove your financial eligibility—and it was enough for the application to get approved.

But now the applicants are also required to pass an interview, subject to which, the application is further processed towards approval. The purpose of the interview is to gauge the status of the applicant’s credibility, their future plans and whether they can blend with the society and the culture of the UK.

Make sure you go prepared.

Falsely attributed to luck, a successful student visa application is more down to how you prepare your application.

Wish you all the best and we hope to see you in the UK soon!
