What You Should Know When Applying for a Visit Visa to the UK
The process of applying for a visit visa to the UK might seem straightforward in theory.
It’s only when you start gathering documents for the trip that you realize how much hard work—not to mention added proof—is needed to show the Home Office that you are indeed a trusted traveller.
Though 2.9 million were granted visas for a variety of reasons by the Home Office in 2018, 77 percent of which were for short-term visits, a large number of applications were also rejected. And that’s because most applicants were not able to prove their case as strongly as they should have.
To make sure that you don’t make the same mistake, Wembley Solicitors offers some important information, so you can get your visit visa approved the first time around!
1. Gather ALL Documents
While the Home Office does list basic documents for a standard visitor visa like copies of proof like your birth certificate, home address, proof of work, valid passport, details of your employment, etc. Other documents are also needed to ensure that you’ve covered every loophole that might otherwise lead to a visa refusal.
These documents should include details like travel history, proof of return, i.e. you have something like academic commitments, a job, etc., that will require you to come back. A valid bank account with enough balance (your bank balance needs to have more than £1,800 per person), payslips, and additional documents from your employer stating that you’re required to come back at a certain date.
2. Don’t File False Documents
Incorrect or forged documentation can get you barred from entering the UK for 10 years. So, if you don’t have a certain document that’s crucial for your visit visa, search for something that’s next best.
If it’s an official document, talk to someone in the relevant department and take your time to obtain it. If it’s a legal document, ask your lawyer or immigration solicitor how quickly you can get it. But do not falsify your documents. In simple words, it’s just not worth it.
3. Show Them Strong Ties to Your Home Country
Give them a strong reason for coming back to your home country.
With their main concern being that travelers do not rely on public funds when in the UK, the Home Office may reject your application if it turns out you have little to no reason to go back. For example, if you’re a student or someone who has just graduated, the Home Office might be more reluctant to grant you a visa since you’d have no long-term commitments that require you to come back.
Attaching documents for any property, assets, study plans, or employment will only strengthen your case more.
