Documents You Need to Bring Your Spouse to the UK
In 2020, around 677,000 immigrants moved to the UK, and 407,000 people emigrated. The coronavirus has slowed down immigration due to government offices being closed and because applicants are struggling to meet the visa requirements.
People hoping to immigrate to the UK using a Spouse visa must meet a long list of requirements. Applicants and their spouses must provide proof of steady income, meet English requirements, and show they’re legally married.
Required Documents for a UK Spouse Visa
All applicants applying for a UK Spouse visa are also required to submit several documents.
If you’re in the UK and want to bring your spouse to the country, prepare the following documents:
- A passport or any other form of acceptable travel identification.
- Documents that prove that you can support yourselves financially. You will be asked to submit payslips for the previous 6 months to show you have a steady income. Applicants also have to submit bank statements.
- Proof of plans in the UK. The Home Office needs to know that your family can support itself; it needs documents that offer proof of future plans.
Other Support Documents
Other than the above documents, having additional support documents in your file can strengthen your case.
You can submit a marriage certificate or provide details of a civil partnership. You can show receipts for your wedding ceremony.
If you intend to get married in the UK, provide email and booking confirmations.
Divorced Individuals
People who were previously married will need to show that all their legal paperwork is finalized, and they are permitted to enter a civil partnership.
They can submit a Decree Absolute or a previous spouse’s death certificate.
Note that all documents must be translated into English or Welsh.
In special circumstances, the couple may be required to submit additional documents.
